From London 2012 to Birmingham Commonwealth Games - Sarah Hill

For many of those who were Games Makers in 2012, the Commonwealth Games has given them another opportunity to volunteer at a major multi sport competition, one such volunteer is Sarah Hill.

What role did you have in London 2012 Sarah? “I was in Athlete’s Services at Horse Guards Parade, working in Freda Bussey’s team looking after the athletes on court, at the training/warmup courts and in the rest areas on venue. It was great to be so close the the action.”

What was your most memorable moment in 2012? Sarah told us “It was probably Super Saturday when Jessica Ennis-Hill, Greg Rutherford and Mo Farah all won gold in a short space of time - my shift was in the lunch/leisure area for the players, so I got to enjoy the atmosphere in there and (discreetly) watch the success of Team GB!”

What do you think was the biggest impact on your being a Games Maker?

“ The solidarity of all of the Games Maker 'family' - that purple and red uniform got you so many smiles and waves from members of the public and it made me feel proud every time I wore it!  It got me hooked on the importance of teamwork and kindness” said Sarah.

Have you stayed connected with any of the other Games Makers from London?

“I was already connected to many through my previous attachment to the Volleyball England Beach Tour for the past two seasons, but it certainly solidified my lifelong friendships” Sarah told us.

Sarah has been a lifelong volunteer with 25 years experience for Volleyball England working on a wide range of event including the Beach Tour taking place across the summer. This summer she is looking forward to her role at the Commonwealth Games, building on her international event experience from London 2012.

Here is Sarah, with mum Di Hollows and Chair of the BVF Richard Callicott in Birmingham.

Thanks for all that you do Sarah, our volunteers are the heart of our sport.
